Smale Riverfront Park is an iconic 32-acre urban park situated along the Ohio River in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. Connecting key urban landmarks including the Great American Ball Park, Paycor Stadium, and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, the park serves as a world-class waterfront gateway. Sponsored by local municipal agencies and developed in collaboration with lead landscape architecture firm Sasaki Associates, the project aimed to revitalize the waterfront, improve public access, and establish high-capacity festival grounds.

1. Architectural Cascade Waterfall & Rain Curtains

The central accent of the promenade features expansive granite steps flanked by dramatic water cascades and overhead glass balcony overlooks. Hydro Dramatics engineered custom rain curtain manifolds that drop precision water sheets into lower reflection pools. Integrated submersible RGB LED lighting systems provide dynamic color sequencing, turning the cascades into a visual focal point at night.

2. Main Street Interactive Water Jet Plaza

Designed for public interaction and child play safety, the Main Street interactive fountain features a high-density matrix of programmable ground-flush water jets. Water sequences, jet heights, and lighting effects synchronize seamlessly to choreographed shows. Hydro Dramatics integrated advanced commercial filtration, high-rate UV disinfection, and automated chemical treatment to guarantee public water health standards.

3. Flood-Resilient Underground Pump Vault & Control Center

Given the proximity to the Ohio River flood zones, equipment safety was paramount. Hydro Dramatics engineered a heavy-duty, centralized equipment room with elevated pump skids elevated off the floor to mitigate potential flood risks. The facility houses high-efficiency commercial circulation pumps, NEMA-rated electrical control panels, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for precise system management.
