Iconic Kinetic Water Feature Engineering
America the Beautiful Park is a landmark 21-acre civic space situated in Colorado Springs, Colorado, serving as a primary hub along the region's extensive urban trail network. The focal point of the entire park is the world-renowned Julie Penrose Fountain (designed by artists David Barber and Bill Burgess), a breathtaking 4-story kinetic sculpture symbolizing the continuous movement of water between earth and atmosphere.
Hydro Dramatics was appointed as the specialist fountain engineering firm to execute the complete mechanical and electrical water feature engineering design for this massive installation. The structure spans four stories in height and rotates continuously at four revolutions per hour, providing evolving spatial perspectives against the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains while integrating an interactive public splash area at its base.
